New York/Paris/Stockholm. 3. März 2009. (intl).

Today is Martin Luther King Day. He was born 80 years ago, on January 15th, 1929. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was just thirty-nine years old.

Tomorrow, more than four decades after Dr. King’s death, Barack Obama will take his oath of office to become the 44th president of the United States and the first African American president in US history. The Reverend Joseph Lowery, a civil rights icon who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Dr, King, will deliver the benediction at the inauguration ceremony. Obama accepted the Democratic party nomination on the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, arguably his most famous address.

While Dr. King is primarily remembered as a civil rights leader, he also championed the cause of the poor and organized the Poor People”s Campaign to address issues of economic justice. Dr. King was also a fierce critic US foreign policy and the Vietnam War.

Democracy NOW! will provide a special coverage about the presidential inauguration ceremony tomorrow on January, 20, 2009.

Democracy NOW! can be seen on more than 700 TV station and heard on about 250 radio stations and on the internet on www.democracynow.org

Democracy NOW! is hosted by Amy Goodman, award winning journalist and author of three hard-hitting books, such as “Standing up to the madness”, which she has written with David Goodman. Amy Goodman to receive Right Livelihood Award

By Andreas Klamm, journalist, broadcast journalist and author of Liberty and Peace NOW!

Washington D. C. / New York City / London/Stockholm/October 28, 2008. The international and excellent journalist which is known as one of the world best top journalists, authors and broadcast journalists has been awarded to receive the Right Livelihood Award on December 8 , 2008 by the Right Livelihood Award Foundation in Stockholm in Sweden.

Amy Goodman will share the right Livelihood Award with four other woman which have been taking part in a vital role of social transformation.

The three other women which will receive also the Right Livelihood Award 2008 are

Krishnammal and Sankaralingam Jagannathan / LAFTI (India)

“…for two long lifetimes of work dedicated to realising in practice the Gandhian vision of social justice and sustainable human development, for which they have been referred to as ‘India’s soul’.”

    Asha Hagi (Somalia)

“…for continuing to lead at great personal risk the female participation in the peace and reconciliation process in her war-ravaged country.”

    and

    Monika Hauser (Germany)

“…for her tireless commitment to working with women who have experienced the most horrific sexual violence in some of the most dangerous countries in the world, and campaigning for them to receive social recognition and compensation.”

Amy Goodman will be honored for “…for developing an innovative model of truly independent political journalism that brings to millions of people the alternative voices that are often excluded by mainstream media.

Presented annually in Stockholm at a ceremony in the Swedish Parliament, the Right Livelihood Award is usually shared by four recipients. One of them may receive an Honorary Award, given to a person or group whose work the Jury wishes to recognize but who is not primarily in need of monetary support. The others share the prize money of 2,000,000 Swedish kronor (approximately USD 310,000). The prize money is for ongoing successful work, never for personal use.

The media is sometimes called the fourth power in a democracy. But in many countries of the world such as for example Germany, Iran, Iraq, China, North Korea and many others the media is today no longer willing or able to play this role. Instead it defers to commercial and political interests, thus eroding democracy and destroying elementary and fundamental vital parts of a democracy such as the freedom the press, liberty, peace, free speech and justice.

With Democracy Now!, Amy Goodman has shown what the alternative to this dangerous trend can look like. Democracy Now! is the largest public media collaboration in the U.S. which is now available to people seeking alternative viewpoints around the globe.

    Career

Amy Goodman was born in 1957, graduated from Harvard in 1984 and became news director at the New York radio station WBAI a few years later. In 1996 she launched the daily one-hour news broadcast Democracy Now!, which she now hosts with Juan Gonzalez, and which is produced live from 08.00 to 09.00 US EST.

    Unembedded reporting

Democracy Now! focuses on issues its producers consider under-reported or ignored by mainstream news coverage, like global news or reporting on anti-war activism in the U.S. It provides hard-hitting, independent, breaking coverage of war and peace, U.S. domestic and foreign policy, and struggles for social, racial, economic, gender and environmental justice in the U.S. and abroad.

Democracy Now! seeks to give voice to the voiceless. Its broadcasts include:

    • in-depth interviews with community members, activists, academics, artists and journalists shut out by the mainstream media,

    • debates between activists and people in power,

    • investigative reports and exclusive interviews with usual and controversial guests,

    • and on-the-ground reporting from protests, the recent conventions and hot spots round the world.

Democracy Now! – Facts and figures

Democracy Now! is the fastest growing independent news program in the United States of America . The educational program is now syndicated to more than 700 radio and TV, satellite and cable TV networks in North America reaching millions of people worldwide.

Democracy Now! is produced by seven producers, 20 full-time and 15 paid part-time staff as well as many volunteers. Broadcast daily as an hourly TV show, but with its founding on radio, it is produced in such a way that the stories never rely on the pictures, which allows it to be sent out as a radio show on community radio stations all over the US.

Democracy Now! has an outreach team working to encourage communities to demand that their community radio stations transmit the program.

Democracy Now!’s innovative technical solutions allow for high usability for any kind of audience. There is ‘close captioning’ for deaf people and numerous voluntary transcribers produce full transcripts of the show. On the website, there are different types of streams and downloads, e.g. audio files, but also high-quality video files that are sent out, for example, by a Japanese TV channel once a week. Democracy Now! also keeps a complete archive of all its shows, which people can research for free.

Democracy Now! receives no government or corporate funding. Because of its educational mission, it has charitable status according to US law (501c3). Major organizational donors have been the Lannan Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund. Significant contributions also come from listeners themselves.

What Amy Goodman is calling Trickle-up journalism”

Amy Goodman describes Democracy Now! as ‘trickle-up journalism’, because the stories it runs are often taken up by the mainstream media and her interviewees are very often interviewed by other channels after they have appeared on Democracy Now! Thus, the significance of Democracy Now! goes beyond the show as such: It also serves to open up the media landscape, acting as a ‘conveyor belt’ for stories that otherwise would not reach the mainstream media.

Awards and books received by Amy Goodman

Amy Goodman’s awards include the Golden Reel for the Best National Documentary for ‘Drilling and Killing: Chevron and Nigeria’s Oil Dictatorship’ in 1998, and the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Prize for ‘Massacre: the Story of East Timor’. This story had almost cost her life: In East Timor, she survived a massacre in 1991 in which Indonesian soldiers gunned down 270 Timorese people.

The journalist, author and broadcast journalist has also written three hard-hitting books with her brother, David Goodman: The Exception to the Rulers (2004); Static: Government Liars, Media Cheer-leaders and the People who Fight Back (2006); and Standing up to the Madness (2008). She also syndicates a column to national papers.

Democracy Now! is broadcast daily from 8-9am EST/1-2pm GMT. To watch today’s show and for a list of international and domestic stations that carry DN!, please go to www.democracynow.org.

Quotation: What Amy Goodman has said about the Right Livelihood Award

“I am completely honored to have my work and the work of my colleagues held in such high regard, it makes me realize how important the work of bringing a truly independent voice to broadcast news and journalism really is. I really believe in free speech and independent journalism as a tool for peace, for understanding. It is so important, especially during times like these, that the media hold the politicians feet to the fire… we all need the real answers, the truth as best we can. This is why I get up every morning and go to the red firehouse we broadcast from everyday, still as excited as my first day at Democracy Now! over 12 years ago.”

    Amy Goodman

The murder and killing of independent journalists fighting for liberty and democracy

Not all journalists which do publish alternative and independent reports do receive an award. Many of these journalists instead of receiving awards have been murdered. According to the Committee to Protect Journalist in 2008, 33 journalists have been killed. In 2007 according to information in the USA a number of 67 journalists have been killed.

The International Press Institute in Europe knows already about 37 journalists which been murdered in the year 2008. In the years 2007 93 journalists have been killed according to the International Press Institute.

Reporters without borders knows about the death of 34 journalists in 2008 while 126 journalists are imprisoned. About so called 93 “cyber dissidents” and 9 media assistant staff do serve in prison for simply speaking out a part of the truth for laboring for liberty, democracy and peace.

New York / London / Stockholm./3mnewswire.org/13. November 2008.

Amy Goodman ist gemeinsam mit ihrem Bruder David Goodman auch die Autorin von politisch kritischen Büchern wie „Standing up to the madness“, Drilling and Killing: Chevron and Nigeria’s Oil Dictatorship’ (1998), Massacre: the Story of East Timor’.

Die Autorin und Journalistin schrieb drei weitere Bücher gemeinsam mit ihrem Bruder mit harten Fakten: The Exception to the Rulers (2004); Static: Government Liars, Media Cheer-leaders and the People who Fight Back (2006); and Standing up to the Madness (2008).

Change we need: How to challenge the big media and media moguls

    Change we need:

How to challenge the big media and media moguls

    By Andreas Klamm

Washington, D. C. / New York City/October 23, 2008/3mnewswire.org/– The truth is revealed. Change we need. Yeah, change we need so urgently. Many people spend so much time to find a solution not be influenced this much by the big main stream media information of the big media and the media which is known as main stream media.

As an investigative journalist, broadcast journalist, French-German author of several books since 1984 I am since 1984 for about 24 years performing a research how we might challenge these big media companies and networks and the big media. For hours I had conversation with editors in chief and even with some of the media moguls until I have realized there are three easy steps how to challenge the big media and the media moguls.

It is this simple and it will cost you not years or hours of your precious time and certainly it will not cost you 700 Billion U.S. Dollars.

If you are not happy with the embedded media coverage, such as on ABC, NBC, Fox News or with Ted Turner´s CNN media network and many other main stream media then simple follow these three easy steps.

1.STEP ONE: You should spend anyway not many hours watching 24 hours television. There is more to discover in life then 24 hours of watching television all the day long.

2.STEP TWO: Simply turn off ABC, NBC, Fox News and Ted Turner´s CNN and switch to Democracy NOW! with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. Democracy NOW! is available worldwide on 250 radio station and about 700 alternative television network station and even on satellite television. You will find the current information where to watch the educational television and radio program on www.democracynow.org . You will have the great chance to see and to hear the difference in the media. It is almost like you as have spend 40 years in the wilderness and have been looking for a good well (water source) where you will find fresh and clean water and just with watching one hour Democracy NOW! you will be able to experience the great joy not to thirst this quick again for a good and educational television and radio program. You will realize also that you do not have to spend hours watching television all the day long and to waste your precious time. After watching one hour Democracy NOW! you will have more time for valuable things which do matter in your life. You could easily spend some time getting engaged with some social work in your local community or you might have even more time to spend with your friends and family.

    3.STEP THREE:
Be polite and friendly write a postcard or an email to ABC, NBC, Fox News and CNN or the other main stream media networks and let them know that you have switched from the main stream media to a good and educational television and radio program which is know as Democracy NOW!

It might take some while but then the media moguls will realize that they are going to loose millions of listeners and viewers they will certainly start to consider to cover the stories and voices which at this time we can not find on the main stream media.

Picture this: It is by no means only Ted Turner and other media moguls which do have the power and strength to challenge you. IT IS YOU, which can challenge the big media and the main stream media moguls. Imagine, if only 90 or 100 million people will follow the advise to turn off the big media and to tune in to Democracy NOW! or other alternative radio and television programs. The big media would feel this by loosing millions of advertising money for commercials and infomercials. Guess if you continue for one week or even longer. The media moguls would start to think and perhaps after some while you would realize that every listener and viewer has so easily the strength and power to challenge and even to change the big media. Think as independent as possible. You need to think ! And then act with peace and wisdom. With every listener and viewer which the big media is going to loose, the big media will loose its power. This concept is working very well with newspapers also. Imagine the newspaper is not covering the stories you want and need to read. Just give them a friendly call to the publishing house and let them know I am not going to buy and read your paper anymore as long as I will find the stories which I can not find at this time in the paper. You can challenge the editors and publishers and you will be able to witness and read the change.

Step number 4 is not this easy. In 1986 I became the founder of the international alternative media network IBS Independent Broadcasting Service Liberty, IBS Television Liberty and Radio IBS Liberty. You should know that my father was a poor fire fighter, my grand father was a French Army Officer stationed in 1945. In 1986 I have started with about 100 German Marks with the foundation an own and international alternative media network will require if you are not rich and have not the money that you will love to work and labor hard.

There are ways to cover huge events such as the G8 summit in Heilgendamm Germany even with only 20 U.S. dollars in your pocket. In 2007 I did this: I have been one of about 4.700 officially journalists, news correspondents and television producer with an accreditation issued by the German government. Before I became one, I had to write to two German courts and some viewers, listeners and readers have signed a petition that I will get with my official press credentials the permission to produce independent television and radio programs. It has required some work and fights to defend the freedom of the press and information.

Therefore as you are able to imagine I do know what I am writing and talking about. It will be not an easy way. Since 1984 I have produced hundreds of television and radio programs and I have conducted hundreds of interviews have been taking about 20.000 photographs as a photo journalist and have received the first awards when I have been 18 years of age in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989 from a state film department from Germany. In the studio and the editorial offices I have spend hours, day and nights even covering the U.S. elections in 2000 and 2004 and in some cases I have been spending about 18 up to 20 hours in the studio to cut and edit radio and television programs.

Sometimes I have been this tired that I have passed or blacked out in the studio and just have been sleeping on the floor of some studios and continued to work and labor when the light of the morning came back.

It was certainly in many cases hard labor and it will require some sacrifices if you are willing to build you own international media network. If you ever will perform 2 hours Live Television programs and 8 hours Live radio programs you will certainly know what I am writing and talking about.

It requires hard labor and work if you do not have the money as the media moguls such as Ted Turner and many others but there is a way.

In the past 24 years I had the chance to meet so many precious people, even some precious politicians and other journalists and I do not want to miss these interesting conversations. My advise is that you should consider the price which you will have to pay by spending a lot of you precious time of life if your are planning to run an alternative television and radio program.

Some advise which will help: If you want to produce good educational radio and television programs you have to read a lot of books. A little example why this advise could be important: Since the age of 16 I am reading and studying the HOLY SCRIPTURES, which some other people call also the bible, Old and New Testament. You will find amazing answers, questions and ideas in this most precious book. Guess you want to cover a story about corruption. It is no joke you will find in the Holy Scriptures the answer, where to start maybe a search for an investigative research and where to find a lot of corruption.

There are many other books on the market which you could and should read also. If you have because of the financial crisis not the money anymore to buy some real good books, spend some time in you community library as I did already in 1987 in Leeds in the United Kingdom and in many other cases in Germany and even in New York City in the United States of America.

If you are planning to work as an investigative broadcast journalist, journalist and author you should be prepared for fights such as death threats, attempted targeted killing and threats. In Germany in many cases some people and political forces try not to shoot journalists but to destroy their financial liberty which is making everyone this easily a slave.  Sometime it occurs that you will receive first threats, followed by death threats and that you will get involved as a victim in so called “accidents”. Some viewers and observers have told me, that some of the accidents which I have suffered have been not accidents but the attempt to kill me for covering simply stories about the abuses of the human rights, political, social and financial affairs.

There is not the proof that these viewers are right but I can assure you that I have received threats and people have told me several times: “We do wonder that you are still alive.” It happened again this afternoon, that a colleague and another independent television producer mentioned to me on the phone: “I do wonder you are still alive…”. He knows that I am since 1984 covering stories and speaking out things which you will hear usually not on the big main stream media. Independent and alternative journalists should work international and seek international co-operation. This is one of the reasons that I became a member of the International Federations of Journalists. Another reason is that since 1993 I am a member of the union.  Since 1989 I am active also as a peace and social activist.

It is a serious thing if you are going to receive threats. Not taking part in the fight could mean that you have lost the fight or the battle already. However I do believe: If the good people are NOT fighting, the bad guys or people will win. And these times are so special that I do believe that we just can not allow and afford the luxury that the bad people which do oppress the truth and millions of people that the bad people will win the battle or the fights. Therefore the good people have to fight for peace, liberty, justice, truth and democracy – every one of us. Peace, liberty, justice, truth, social security and democracy are under attack and every one of us should take part in defending these elementary and fundamental rights. This will certainly not without danger. I do know that liberty is right and GOD gave us not a free will to be slaves. God teaches liberty. Do fight as peaceful as possible, not with violence, overcome evil with good, overcome violence with non-violence. There are many peaceful ways how to fight and how to defend.

Now I am telling you a little secret. You will find in the Holy Scriptures even the advise how you could act in time of a financial crisis. Certainly it requires some faith and belief.

Another good advise is listen to the things what your viewers and listener are going to tell you and will write you. Some real good ideas for television and radio programs which have received an award I got from listeners and viewers on the street. In many cases the conversation started this way: “I have seen your program on television and …”. Afterwards some of my viewers gave me some advise or tips what they want to see on the screen or what they want to hear on the radio. In some cases I have spend a night in other cases I have mediated a week and then my thought was something similar like “Let´s try this idea or way…”. Not always but in some cases it was working out good and therefore to some of my viewers which are watching my television programs and listening to my radio programs since about 24 year I am very thankful and I want to let you know: THANK you and I do love you !

Even you might get famous, known in many different countries in this world PLEASE keep in mind, that our listeners and viewers deserve the THANKSGIVING. One of our websites has visitors and readers from 40 different countries. We had not one single cent on our budget for 2007 and 2008 for advertising to tell other people about this new service which has started in May 2008.

The viewers and listeners of my radio and television programs are meaning a lot to me and I am thankful for each of them. Some of them have told me, that they do sense this feelings towards them, that I do appreciate very much that they are spending some times one minute and some times one hour to one of my radio or television programs and some of them are thankful for this appreciation.

As long as you are not a real good business man in the financial and commercial sense you should expect not getting rich but to face serious trouble for working as an investigative broadcast journalist and journalist. For simply covering an event on television about 100 homeless people in Germany I have received threats in the year of 2006 and 2007 including death threats again.

Thank you to the listeners and viewers and for your tips and guidance which has challenged in Germany sometimes even the big commercial main stream and even the powerful state operated television and radio stations in Germany. However I know God is watching and listening us at any time and this comforts me, perhaps other people, too. There is no secret which you can hide before the Lord our God. This truth and fact might scare some people while this truth and fact is a comfort to me and many other people. Some viewers have been wondering what the term “Journalist, D.o.G.” stands for during some of my television programs and perhaps they might have been thinking I am working for the Department of Germany. This is not the case, I am still working international and alternative. Some times I do wonder if some one wants to tell others about the truth how in the world we are able to deny the most important truth? The answer and truth is very simple: “D.o.G. Stands for dependent upon the GRACE OF GOD.” All truth shall be revealed. Best wishes.

== Peace, social and liberty activist movement ==

After he completley has servered the entire forced military service with the German Air Force, for 15 months form 1988 to 1989, the author and journalist has written to the military council of the German Air Force and has requested NOT to be forced to participate any kind of war for the country of Germany as a solider in 1989 for reason of faith, believe, religion, political reason and of conscience. The German military council has refused to accept the request not to participate any kind of war.

Membership also with the German Red Cross as known as Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK).

In 2003 he was elected as a board  member of the General assembly for students with the Protestant University of Applied Science in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany as known as the Allgemeiner Studierender Ausschuss (AStA).

In the early 90´s he used to be a board member of several other associations and media assocations.

In 1988 he covered a story about a refugee from former Yugoslavia which has been on probation for asylum in Germany, a father of several children and the German authorities wanted to send back the man to Yugoslavia althought it was crystal clear that this will be a serious danger for the father of children. Andreas Klamm has produced an interview with press spokesmen and press spokeswomen and with the father which was in danger. The television program has been aired on regional public television. He got in trouble for speaking out a part of the truth and taking a stand in the public for refugees.

Since 1988 he is covering news stories about social affairs and issues. He has produced some interviews with homeless people, which usually have no voice in the main stream media. Thousands of viewers have heard and seen the interviews with homeless people on the alternative radio and television channels.

He has produced a television program which have been addressed to the governor of the state of Rhineland-Palatinata, Mr. Kurt Beck, from the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in 2006 for a man with disabilities which is still looking simply for a job with payment.

In 2007 he has published a special coverage about the arrest of the “Junge Welt” (daily news paper) correspondent, journalist and author, Mrs. Heike Schrader, which got arrested under the suspiscion of terrorism because she has published a book about torture in the European Union.

Since many years he is also active in supporting people which are in the danger of the death penalty. He has signed many petitions to end the death penalty, wrote letter even to ambassadors such as the country of North Korea and mailed copies of the bible around the world even to ambassadors.

He has published several petititions against the death penalty, against the threats of journalist and against torture.

In October 2007 the author and journalist Andreas Klamm has requested with the U.S. Department of Justice the request to change the citizenship according to article 15, Universal Declaration of the Human Rights for reason of belief, faith, political reason, reason of persecution and of conscience.

Diagnosed with cancer – but diagnosis is not certain

In 2003 the journalist and author was diagnosed thorugh his former physician with the possibility that he may suffers from cancer of a quite unusual kind. The diagnosis has not got proven but also no excluded. The search for a possible cancer is not possible because access to medical treatment and even access to dentists for the journalist is since 18 months not possible.

== Danger for life, isolation, torture and abuse of human rights ==

He declared in several public speeches and on radio and television that he wants not to die in Germany and neither wants to be buried in Germany. He has declared that he wants to travel to the United States of America, may live and work in the U.S.A. for some while and may be buried in the United States of America.

Because access to medical treatment of any kind is not possible to the author and journalist with is officially physically disabled a lot of negative impact for the health situation of the journalist and author have taken place.

He is living and working under LOW- and even NO-budget conditions. The journalist and nurse (R.N., RGN) has stated in the public if he will not soon be allowed to leave Germany the danger that he might die, because there is no chance for medical treatment in Germany is great. He has also declared that he wants to see his medical doctor in London, United Kingdom.  Since 2006 his place where he prefers to live is the city of London, as a 2nd choice as long he has to wait to get access to the United States of America. He prefers to live, work “…and to die as late as possible…” in the United States of America.

An international observer from a human rights organization in Canada has told the journalist, that he might be a victim of torture.  She offered some kind of help to leave Germany as soon as possible but because of special circumstance related to friends of the family of his mother the journalist was not ready to leave in spring 2008.

Answering the question how is going to survive without the possibilty of medical treatment of any kind or even without access to a dentist in Germany the author and journalist has answered: “…every day I have to pray before the Holy G-D of Israel and the Messiah…, some people, friends and even people which could be called enemies have been so kind to provide so pharmaceutical supplies or medication which I do need after three serious accidents which have happened in 1994, 1995 and 1996. In such very difficult times it is a real challenge to trust upon the Holy G-D of Israel and the Messiah that HE will take care of the certain needs. If I would not have the faith and believe that the Holy G-D of Israel and the Messiah do exsist I would be already dead.  This is not about religion, this is a statement in concern of faith and believe. For some reason I do believe that religion can not save a man or a woman. Through grace I do know that faith and believe can save a woman or a man.

As I do have no money for an attorney this is all I can do in concern of the issue medical treatment and access to a dentist. After all what happened I want to see only my medical doctor in London in the United Kingdom or a Jewish medical doctor in New York City in the United States of America.  It is a though situation to be isolated from friends in New York City or in the U.S.A.

Recently I have produced an interview with a victim which is held in an isolation camp in Germany. Perhaps you are able to understand that I do know very well about the issues this man was talking about. Torture is a serious thing and I am against torture, many people do know this. Every day I have to ask the Holy G-D of Israel and the Messiah to help me to go through this very dangerous situation. It is sad that so many people do know very well how to kill other people but do not know or perhaps might be not willing to save the life of people which are in serious danger.”.

Several people have signed  a petition and requested political asylum for the author and journalist Andreas Klamm in the United States of America or as an alternative in the United Kingdom.
